Recalcitrance of atrazine at low levels to aerobic and hydrogenotrophic microorganisms

, : Recalcitrance of atrazine at low levels to aerobic and hydrogenotrophic microorganisms. Biotechnology Letters 9(11): 811-816

Experiments with flow-through and batch reactor systems, incubated either under air or under hydrogen, confirm literature data that atrazine present at low concentrations in water is very recalcitrant to microbial metabolism. Only a temporary adsorption could be observed. Dimethylamine and cyanuric acid, added at trace levels, failed to induce breakdown of atrazine.

Six of the 13 Aeromonas hydrophila, 1 of 10 A. shigelloides, and none of 10 A. salmonicida were found to be psychrophiles. All of the rest of the strains were mesophiles.
