Recent results in rearing trichogramma in vitro with artificial media devoid of insect additives

, : Recent results in rearing trichogramma in vitro with artificial media devoid of insect additives. Acta Entomologica Sinica 25(2): 160-163

This paper reports the results of experiments using artificial media devoid of insect additives for rearing T. dendrolimi, T. pretiosum and T. confusum in vitro. A mixture of yeast hydrolysate, calf fetus serum and Grace's solution gave good results in attracting females to ovipost and the quantity of ova laid into the artificial eggs is comparable to the hemolymph of Antheraea pernyi used in making artificial eggs. A combination of the above mentioned mixture (60%) with chicken embryo extract (10%), cows milk (15%) and chicken egg yolk (10-20%), gives an artificial medium which can be used to rear the larvae into adults, with the percentages of pupation and adult emergence 17-36% and 1-2%, respectively. The adult wasps had abnormal wing development and were weak. The media and rearing method require improvement.
