Relative efficacy of a few pesticides in the control of rotylenchulus reniformis on tomato

Six pesticides, carbofuran, Counter, Disyston, aldicarb, phorate and DBCP [1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane] were applied as soil drenches to 5 wk old tomato plants infected 1 wk earlier with R. reniformis, at doses equivalent to 1, 2 and 3 kg a.i.[active ingredient]/ha. There were no adverse effects on the growth of the tomato plants due to pesticides. However, they had effectively checked the nematode build-up in the soil and roots. Carbofuran and Counter were most effective in reducing populations by 81 and 73% at 1 kg/ha, while Disyston was not effective.
