Relative efficacy of neem kernel fentin acetate and fentin hydroxide as anti feedants against tobacco caterpillar spodoptera litura in the nursery

The relative efficacy of neem kernel suspension in water at 1-5% concentrations, fentin acetate (0.075%) and fentin hydroxide (0.075%) as antifeedants was studied under field conditions against S. litura during 1973-75. Fentin hydroxide was most effective and superior to all the concentrations of neem kernel suspension. No differences were observed between 2, 3, 4 and 5% concentrations of neem kernel suspension and fentin acetate, which was at par with fentin hydroxide. Neem kernel suspension at 1% was less effective than other concentrations. The tobacco [Nicotiana tabacum] nursery was effectively protected from damage by larvae of S. litura by using fentin hydroxide or fentin acetate both at 0.075% or neem kernel suspension in water at 2%.
