Relative polycythemia and acute myocardial infarction

Relative polycythemia and acute myocardial infarction

Acta Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis Facultatis Medicae 111: 241-246

Retrospective evaluation of the red blood picture and other clinical and laboratory findings was carried out in 228 patients with acute myocardial infarction during the period of 1981-1984. Polycythemia occurred in 98, i.e. in 42.9% of the group. Our study further showed no correlation of the above mentioned symptom to total early mortality rate. Polycythemia was also evaluated in connection with other risk factors contributing to development of myocardial infarction.
