Reliability of optic disc measurement with computerized stereoscopic video image analyzer

Computerized digital image analysis of the optic nerve head was performed using a simultaneous stereoscopic video camera system, which provide rapid, quantitative measurement of optic nerve head topography. Determination of the variability of the measurement is important for estimating the magnitude of the optic-cup change over time which can be detected reliably. To determine the reliability of the data, interphotographic error variance was studied. And also intraphotographic error variance attributable to repeated analysis of the same recording was evaluated. For interphotographic study, 10 sets of video recordings made in each of 5 eyes of 5 normal subjects, and in 5 eyes of 5 glaucoma patients were analyzed. For intraphotographic study, we analyzed one video recording for each of 10 eyes 8 times. The median interphotographic coefficients of variance were 3.1% c/d ratio, 7.5% in rim area, and 8.9% in cup volume. And the median intraphotographic coefficients of variance were 1.4% in c/d ratio, 4.2% in rim area, and 1.5% in cup volume.
