Morphohistochemical characteristics of renal papilla glycosaminoglycans (GAG) were studied in the small vole during the postnatal development. The GAG distribution in the small vole is compared with that of the water vole and albino rat. The data permit the author to suggest that the period between the end of the first week and the beginning of the second one is critical for the redistribution of GAG in the renal papilla and depends on their ecological specialization. The question of occurrence of the interstitial GAG in the rodent renal papilla is discussed.
