Repair of heat injury by tradescantia albiflora leaf cells 2. repair of chloroplast ultrastructure and photosynthesis
After a 5-min heating of attached leaves of T. albiflora Kunth, photosynthesis was strongly inhibited, but the chlorplast ultrastructure of parenchyma cells remained unchanged. In 24 h and 42 h after heating, ultrastructural disturbances were observed in most chloroplasts. At the same time, photosynthesis is restored. The percentage of chloroplasts with destroyed ultrastructure decreased drastically. At 72 and 120 h after heating, only single chloroplasts with advanced degradation were observed. Photosynthesis in heated leaves almost recovered completely 120 h after heating.
