The incorporation of 2-14C-uracil into RNA, secondary derivatives of absorption spectra at 196.degree. K, low-temperature fluorescence spectra, a light-induced change in fluorescence yield of the chlorophyll photosystem II (.DELTA.P) and light-induced changes in absorbance at 700 (.DELTA.D700) were studied in intact Chlorella cells under 2-deoxy-D-glucose and experimentally induced accumulation of assimilates in the chloroplast. A reversible repression of RNA synthesis, disturbances in the activity of photosystem I and photosystem II reaction centers, a decrease in P-700 concentration, a weakening of interaction of photochemical systems and disaggregation of long-wave chlorophyll species were observed. The role of the products of photosynthetic C reduction (glucose) in regulating photosynthesis at the level of the synthesis of chloroplast components is discussed.
