Reproduction and early ontogeny of hucho hucho

Reproduction and early ontogeny of hucho hucho

Prirodovedne Prace Ustavu Ceskoslovenske Akademie Ved v Brne 15(6): 1-33

Artificial spawning, incubation and fry culture of the Danubian salmon, H. hucho (L.) under the conditions of the fish farm of the Slovak Angler's Union at Podsucha near Ruzomberok [Czechoslovakia], were studied. The early ontogeny was emphasized. This was carried out under operational conditions at the farm, both in culture apparatus at the hatchery and in special ponds. The early development was divided into 11 embryonic and 2 larval steps. Each of the steps was characterized by the most significant morphological, morphometrical, ethological and ecophysiological parameters. Those bearing some relation to the biotechnology of artificial culture were emphasized. The Danubian salmon seems to differ in the character of its early development in many important parameters from other salmonid fishes, particularly the species of the genera Salmo, Oncorhychus and Salvelinus, and is more comparable with the genera Brachymystax and Stenodus. According to the classification of Soin (1980), the Danubian salmon has an embryogenesis of intermediate type between salmon-stenodid and coregon-thymallid fish.
