Reproduction and productivity of the elk and their prognostication

Reproduction and productivity of the elk and their prognostication

Ekologiya (Moscow) (6): 31-39

The reproduction and productivity of the elk (Alces alces) was studied in the northeastern European USSR. The effect of climatic factors on the cycle of populational dynamics was taken into account. In order to protect the elk, it is necessary to create artificial water reservoirs. The animals could use these reservoirs as a source of water, food (swamp plants), and to protect themselves from blood-sucking insects and excess heat.
