Reproduction and survival of rainbow trout salmo gairdneri fed linolenic acid as the only source of essential fatty acids

Reproduction and survival of rainbow trout salmo gairdneri fed linolenic acid as the only source of essential fatty acids

Lipids 14(6): 572-575

A semipurified test diet containing 1% linolenate as the sole dietary essential fatty acid was fed to rainbow trout (S. gairdneri) for 34 mo. The fish matured and the eggs produced were hatched. The 2nd generation fry were fed our laboratory diet for 3 mo. The growth of these fry was normal. Histologic examinations revealed no abnormality in liver, heart and kidney tissues of the fry during the 3 mo. period.
