The reproduction of 7 spp. of aquatic snakes [Agkistrodon pisciuorus, Nerodia cyclopion, N. erythrogaster, N. fasciata, N. rhombifera, Regina grahami and R. rigida] was investigated in the Atchafalaya River Basin of south-central Louisiana [USA]. Reproductive systems of 162 females were examined. N. rhombifera ovulate from early May through the 3rd wk of July, and bear young from early Aug. through the 3rd wk of Oct. N. cyclopion ovulate from late April-June, and bear young from late July-Sept. The gestation period of N. cyclopion is 3 mo. or less, and the female reproductive cycle occurs annually. The average number of young per litter of N. cyclopion is 18. N. fasciata, N. erythrogaster and R. rigida ovulate during May and June. R. grahami ovulate from late April through the 3rd wk of June. Most A. piscivorus in south-central Louisiana reproduce annually.
