Reproduction of hymeniacidon sanguinea larval behavior and post larval development

Reproduction of hymeniacidon sanguinea larval behavior and post larval development

Investigacion Pesquera 46(1): 29-40

Larval behavior patterns of this species were studied in situ and under experimental conditions. Larval emission occurs in the Costa Brava, [Spain] from Aug.-Sept. Larvae have a short period of free life and prove to be unselective to the nature and orientation of the substrate settling on any type of rough surface. No response to light gradients was observed; but during the 1st hours of free life, larvae display a negative geotaxis which changed to a positive one at the pre-settlement time. The aquiferous system begins to develop 5 days after the attachment of the larvae and the rhagon structure is completed in 7 days.
