Reproduction of platanus acerifolia and salix alba cultivar tristis by tissue culture in vitro

Experiments were performed to establish the conditions of P. .times. acerifolia Willd. and S. alba L. cv. Tristis reproduction by tissue culture. Two experiments were run. Leaf buds of Platanus and infloresence buds of Salix were used. Growth of callus from Platanus and Salix depending on the concentration of growth substances (benzyladenine and naphthaleneacetic acid) and light and dark conditions were compared. Rooted explants of S. alba L. cv. Tristis were obtained. The best results were obtained with P. .times. acerifolia, in which rhizogenesis of amorphic callus occurred after 2 mo. of the experiment. Darkness was not a necessary condition for root formation. After 3 mo. of the experiment, completely developed P. .times. acerifolia plants were obtained composed of foliated shoots and a bundle of roots. They could be planted on a sterile permanent substrate.
