Reproduction of plums with green cuttings in the belorussian ssr ussr

Reproduction of plums with green cuttings in the belorussian ssr ussr

Izvestiya Timiryazevskoi Sel'skokhozyaistvennoi Akademii (6): 104-112

The ability of 13 plum varieties to propagate by green cuttings was studied. According to the degree of establishment, 3 groups were distinguished. The cultivars Edinburgsky, Lerusalimsky, Markov's plum, Victorija and Local Red appeared to be readily establishing ones. Cuttings of the investigated varieties established well on the substrate of top peat and especially of its mixtures with sand in ratio 1:1 and 1:2. Lime at 12 kg per 1 ton of peat appeared to be the optimal rate for reducing peat acidity. Propagation of readily establishing plum cultivars by green cuttings was more profitable than growing the planting stock by grafting on seedling stocks.
