Reproduction of raccoons procyon lotor in north carolina usa

Reproduction of raccoons procyon lotor in north carolina usa

Journal of the Elisha Mitchell Scientific Society 97(3): 194-199

The reproductive biology of raccoons in the upper coastal plain and lower piedmont of North Carolina was examined. In adult females, reproductive tract weights increased from late Nov. 1975-Feb. 1976 (n = 16). The mean number of placental scars in this cohort was 2.93 (n = 14) with the mean value for all females being slightly lower. Mean testis weight of adult males also increased through the winter months. The age of 1st breeding for both sexes and the degree of breeding by subadult females in North Carolina are similar to values for these parameters found in other studies, particularly those in the midwestern USA.
