Abstract
The effectiveness of the stellate sturgeon natural reproduction was studied in the lower course of the Volga River in years of varied water content and in years when the dam was in short-term use. Data are presented on age composition and on the horizontal and vertical distribution of larvae in the river bed. The dam affects the dynamics of sturgeon migration, leading to the redistribution of their spawning grounds. The effectiveness of reproduction depends on many factors, but the determining factor is the volume of the flow during summer low water level period.
