Reproductive cycle and behavior of sardinella brasiliensis on the brazilian coast 23 degrees south 28 degrees south influence on the length weight relationship
Some aspects of the length/weight relationship of S. brasiliensis and its variations as a function of their reproductive cycle and displacements along the Brazilian coast between 23.degree. S and 28.degree. S were analyzed. The area surveyed was divided into 5 subareas, each one covering 1.degree. of latitude. The relationship and its variations between shoals were studied for each subarea at different seasons and for the subareas at the same season. The absence of a variation pattern for the length/weight relationship was the result of seasonal changes in the physiological aspects of fish (as a function of their reproductive cycle) as well as a result of behavior of individuals in 2 main areas: 23.degree. S-25.degree. S and 26.degree. S-28.degree. S, which were spawning areas. They returned to their original subareas at different occasions, following their 1st sexual maturation. The young converged to a common nursery.
