Wheat Helminthosporium caused by the Pyrenophora trichostoma (Fr.) Fekl., f.c. Helminthosporium tritici repentis Diet. is present in the center of Oltenia in 30-40% in the control crops for seeds. The disease is favored by the high humidity in the period, April-June if normal temperatures are maintained. In field conditions the attack starts during the stalk extension stage and develops rapidly during ear formation stage and flowering by characteristic spots, which cover 68% at the sensitive cultivars and 18% at the resistant cultivars. Libellula, Montana cultivars and F 41-69, L 23, L 62, Neuzucht, Chris, Purdue 5216 and Purdue 68042 B 5-5 lines proved to be medium resistant, under 5 mark on the FAO scale 1-9 from the 50-80 cultivars annually experimented during the period 1974-1978, with a primary infection at seeding by incorporating 4 g vegetal remains with mycelium and fructification.
