Resistance of the larvae of spodoptera littoralis to carbon di oxide ammonia and hydrogen sulfide lepidoptera noctuidae

Laboratory experiments were carried out to investigate the possible effect of some gases (CO2, NH3 and H2S) usually produced in the soil on the 6 larval instars of the cotton leafworm S. littoralis. The LD50 of these gases was determined for each larval instar. The addition of highly organic ammoniacal fertilizers to the soil may limit activity and damage caused by the larvae of S. littoralis.
