Resistance of uk cultivars of runner beans phaseolus coccineus to bean common mosaic virus and bean yellow mosaic virus and to halo blight

Resistance of uk cultivars of runner beans phaseolus coccineus to bean common mosaic virus and bean yellow mosaic virus and to halo blight

Journal of the National Institute of Agricultural Botany 15(1): 113-116

Runner bean cultivars on the UK National List were assessed for resistance to bean common (BCMV) and bean yellow mosaic (BYMV) viruses and to halo blight [caused by Pseudomonas phaseolicola]. All cultivars were resistant to the NL3, NL4 and NVRS strains of BCMV and the NVRS isolate of BYMV, but susceptible to halo-blight races 1 and 2. P. coccineus could be an important source of virus resistance in P. vulgaris breeding programs and that existing halo blight resistance in P. vulgaris should be transferred to P. coccineus.
