Results of pathogenicity survey of yellow rust of wheat puccinia striiformis f sp tritici and barley puccinia striiformis f sp hordei during 1981 1984

During the four cropping seasons 1981 to 1984, 360 samples of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici and 26 samples of P. striiformis f. sp. hordei, collected from various states of northern India and Tamil Nadu were analysed on the new set of differentials. Since 1982 in the Nilgiri hills of Tamil Nadu virulence I (38S103) has continued to dominate. Virulence 20 (70S0) and 38 (66S0-1) which were common during 1981 over north-west India declined. Frequency of the new virulence K (47S102), detected in 1982, considerably increased over years. Despite this, number of other virulences occurred in low frequencies. In barley no new virulence was traceable.
