Role of leukocytes and blood platelets in lung injury in hemorrhagic shock the protective effect of aspirin and dipyridamole

Role of leukocytes and blood platelets in lung injury in hemorrhagic shock the protective effect of aspirin and dipyridamole

Patologicheskaya Fiziologiya i Eksperimental'naya Terapiya (6): 5-8

In a model of posthemorrhagic lung injury in rabbits the sharp decrease in the number of leukocytes and blood platelets in circulation during the period of hemorrhagic hypotension apparently is associated with an increase in the number of leukocytes and in the difference between the number of parietal and free leukocytes in the pulmonary arterioles. Such shifts were attended by marked periarteriolar and interstitial edema and the appearance of many sites of microatelectasis in the lungs. Aspirin and dipyridamole prevent the development of the above-indicated changes and increased the degree of arterialization on the 2nd-3rd day after blood loss and shock. The importance of stabilizing the number of leukocytes and blood platelets in this circulation so as to prevent pulmonary complications in hemorrhagic shock is discussed.
