Qualitative and quantitative compositions of microorganism physiological groups in the digestive tract of carp (Cyprinus carpio L.), grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella V.) and tench (Tinca tinca L.) of different ages were studied under various nutritional conditions (natural food, concentrate, wintering and starvation). Bacteria (protein mineralizing, proteolytic, lactic acid and starch hydrolyzing), molds, yeasts and actinomycetes were found in the digestive tract. Fermentative activity was greatly affected by species, age and food amount and composition. Starch hydrolyzing bacteria, containing amylase, and cellulose-degrading microflora were characteristic of the grass carp digestive tract. Protein mineralizing and lactic acid bacteria were significant in digestive tracts of carp and tench.
