In 1972 a considerable number of microorganisms of various physiological groups was found in the digestive canal of 3 yr carp (Cyprinus carpio), white amur (Ctenopharyngodon idella) and tench (Tinca tinca). The largest numbers of bacteria were found in the white amur, the least in the tench. Bacteria mineralizing protein, proteolitic bacteria and lactic-acid bacteria were characteristic of the carp. Very intense splitting of cellulose, bacteria hydrolyzing starch, proteolitic bacteria and lactic-acid bacteria were characteristic of the digestive canal of white amur. Lactic-acid bacteria and proteolitic bacteria were characteristic of the tench. In the digestive canal of 3 yr fish the number of bacteria considerably increased (from 103-5 .times. 109 cells on the average during the season) as compared with 1 yr and 2 yr fish.
