A survey on the main disease affecting swine raised in the area of 'Mata de Ponte Nova', Minas Gerais State (Brazil) was conducted using 145 weaned pigs and 145 sows, kept under confinement conditions. The results indicated that 28.6% of the swine distributed over 86.2% of the units studied had coccidia oocysts (91.5% of Eimeria and 8.4% of Isospora). The rates of herd and animals infected by helminths (Ascaris, Hyostrongylus, Oesophagostomum and Trichuris) were 89.6 and 30.5%, respectively. Eperythrozoon spp. was diagnosed in 41.2% (12/29) and 4.1% (18/435) of the herds and animals, respectively. The ectoparasites identified were Haematopinus suis (13.7%) and Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis (37.9%). Antibodies against Brucella sp. and Leptospira sp. were examined through the plate serum agglutination and micro-agglutination tests, respectively. It was found that 3.4% (5/145 sows) were positive to Brucella sp. and 5.2% (23/435 animals) to Leptospira sp.
