Scanning electron microscopy of sterigma in exobasidium spp

Bulletin of the Faculty of Agriculture Shimane University (18): 171-182
Scanning electron microscopy of sterigma in exobasidium spp
The number of sterigma per basidium of Exobasidium spp. was investigated by a scanning electron-microscope and the results were shown. E. vexans: Two sterigmata and spores per basidium, but not observed three or four sterigmata. E. nudum: The number of sterigma per basidium was typically four, but two, three and five-sterigmata were observed in basidium. E. japonicum: The number of sterigma per basidium was four to seven in this fungus. The case of five or six was common, four or seven sterigmata were rarely. E. gracile: Three or four sterigmata were investigated in basidium, mainly three sterigmata. E. camelliae: Four sterigmata per basidium were typical, and rarely two, three and five sterigmata were observed in this fungus.
