An investigation was carried out to clarify whether genetic factors controlling cool tolerance in the cytoplasm. F1 hybrids of 3 reciprocal crosses between tolerant and susceptible varieties were compared in seed sterility and dehiscence index of anther under low temperatures. There are no genetic factors for cool tolerance in the cytoplasm. F1 plants showed heterosis in cool tolerance.
