Selection for autofertility in vicia faba
Two different groups of lines selected from Southern Italy landraces and the world collection of Vicia faba L., respectively, have been evaluated in the field from S1 through S4, for the first group, and from S3 through S6, for the second group. The traits observed in each generation have been: seed yield from isolated and open pollinated plants and the ratio between the seed yield values (relative productivity, RP). An index of stability has been estimated for each line. On the data related to yield and yield components obtained in S4 for the first group and S6 for the second group a multivariate analysis was performed in order to deduce the divergence among lines. Significant divergence was observed among S4 and S6 lines, and the best S4 and S6 lines showed also the highest RP values, but not always the highest stability.
