Selection for drought resistance

Genetika 20(11): 1887-1893

'Saratovskaya 42' is a variety of hard white spring wheat grown in dry regions of the USSR. This variety was created with the help of the compound stepped hybridization. The method enables 'Saratovskaya' breeders to achieve higher adaptation of new varieties, due to gradual accumulation of the needed genes derived from increasing number of the local old varieties.
