Selection in early segregating generations of faba beans vicia faba

The F2, F3 and F4 hybrids in faba beans were investigated and selection was practiced in some of these populations. Some of the selections were relatively good yielders compared to control varieties. Single-genotype selections were not always the best yielder compared to multigenotype selections. Selections with black hila were sometimes better yielders than selections with colorless hila. Cross-breeding offers good chances for enriching useful variability in faba bean. Successive segregating generations did not differ much in their yields and sometimes reciprocal cross differences occurred in reciprocal hybrids.
