Selection index in sunflower helianthus annuus
Selection indices were computed with the help of dispersion matrices of 10 cultures of sunflower (H. annuus Linn.). The maximum genetic gain was obtained when all 7 characters [plant height basal diameter number of leaves per plant, capitulum size percentage of seed filling, 100-seed weight and yield] under study were considered together. Selection for component characters was more profitable than selection for yield alone.
