Selection of 5' nucleotidase rich thymocytes under hydrocortisone treatment
The 5'-nucleotidase activity/106 cells of the total thymocyte population in rats treated with hydrocortisone was higher than that of untreated ones. The number of thymocytes with low density and high activity of 5'-nucleotidase was 4-fold greater in cortisone-treated rats than in untreated ones. The low density thymocytes release under heating a significantly larger amount of proteins/106 cells than thymocytes of high density. The 5'-nucleotidase activity/mg protein was equal in both cases. Evidently under the influence of hyrocortisone there occurs a selection of thymocytes with high 5'-nucleotidase activity.
