Sero epidemiological investigations on the incidence of leptospirosis in cloven hoofed game in west germany

Sero epidemiological investigations on the incidence of leptospirosis in cloven hoofed game in west germany

Zeitschrift fuer Jagdwissenschaft 27(4): 283-287

Serum samples (399) collected from native cloven-hoofed game were investigated using agglutinating-lysis reaction for antibodies against leptospirosis. Antibodies were found in 1.8% of 169 sera from roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), in 2.1% of 96 sera from red deer (C. elaphus) and in 18.6% of sera from wild boars (Sus scrofa) in a serum dilution of 1:400 and higher. In 5.7% of sera from 35 fallow deer (Dama dama) were only found suspicious titers (1:200). In 29 sera of mouflon (Ovis musimon) antibodies against leptospirosis were not detected. The most reactions were found against Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae (31.7%), L. ballum (17.1%) and L. grippotyphosa (12.2%). The significance of the serological findings is discussed.
