Serological studies on chicks infected with infectious bursal disease virus and vaccinated for ranikhet disease

The hemagglutination-inhibition (HI) antibody titer against Ranikhet disease (RD) was determined in chicks infected with infectious bursal disease (IBD) virus and subsequently vaccinated with RD vaccine. The HI antibody titers followed a decreasing pattern in the chicks infected at 0 and 24 h after hatching up to 6th wk. All the chicks had poor humoral antibody response as compared to vaccinated controls; all of them survived RD challenge. Precipitating antibodies of IBD were present in sera of some on the 7th day: all the sera were positive during 9th and 26th days of infection. Positive reactors decreased by 42 days of age.
