Abstract
Serum haptoglobin (Hp) levels and biochemical indicators of liver function (bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, pseudocholinesterase, .gamma.-glutamyltransferase and prothrombin) were measured in 27 cirrhotic patients and 34 patients with viral hepatitis. The mean Hp levels between the control group and both groups of studied patients were statistically significant (P < 0.001). No correlation was found between Hp levels and the other biochemical parameters.
