A model of a microcirculatory unit was developed to study O2 exchange processes within the upper part of the [human] skin. The model includes the loop-shaped capillary structure of stratum papillare, the nonlinear binding of O2 by Hb and, in particular, the shift of the O2 Hb dissociation curve due to temperature variations. The corresponding nonlinear elliptic boundary value problem is defined and the existence of at least one solution assured. After describing the numerical procedure to calculate an approximation to the solution, results of several calculations representing different supply situations of the upper skin are presented and discussed.
