Site and host factors affecting the sitka spruce weevil pissodes strobi in western washington usa

Site and host factors affecting the sitka spruce weevil pissodes strobi in western washington usa

Environmental Entomology 10(5): 611-614

Adult P. strobi (Peck) activity and brood production were compared at spruce [Picea sitchensis (Bong) Carr.] plantations with high and low weevil infestation levels. During 2 yr of observation, weevil activity started .apprx. 30 days earlier at the heavily infested plantation. Caging adults on terminals at both sites showed that the subsequent brood mortality was significantly higher at the plantation with low weevil damage. Poor brood survival was attributed mainly to resinosis.
