Investigations were carried out on the food composition and seasonal fluctuation in the feeding pattern of the Indian pygmy pipistrelle, P. m. mimus, Wroughton, collected from various districts of Rajasthan State. The species feeds on a variety of insect orders depending on their availability in nature. During summer, insects belonging to 5 different orders are consumed in about equal proportions, while in monsoon, termites (Isoptera) constitute .apprx. 1/2 of the diet. In post monsoon and winter, beetles are devoured in quantity. The species consumes a number of serious polyphagous insect pests of crops in Rajasthan and has a promising role in the insect pest management through biological control.
