Special features of the endoplasmic reticulum in the central nervous system

Special features of the endoplasmic reticulum in the central nervous system

Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia 16(3): 259-264

The neurons of different parts of the brain of cattle, sheep, and goat were examined electron microscopically for special features of the endoplasmic reticulum. These features may be divided into three groups on the basis of the number and position of the tubuli. Simple lamellar bodies are present in nearly all neurons; complex lamellar bodies are found only in certain cell groups and regions; and tubulus-nuclear-membrane complexes have no affinity for certain neurons.
