Spectral analysis of coupled nonlinear oscillators under modulation conditions with reference to intestinal modeling
Frequency entrainment conditions in the electrical activity of the mammalian duodenum were modelled by a chain of coupled non-linear oscillators. Modulation conditions also occur in the lower part of the duodenum, and spectral analysis is used here for this case on 3 oscillator dynamics. Very similar spectra occur for an electronic implementation and both simple van der Pol dynamics and complex Hodgkin-Huxley equations. Spectral analysis revealed an important principle which determines the values of the sidebands during modulation. This principle may well enable extensions to theory to be made for the case of coupled van der Pol systems.
