Spectral studies on metal ligand bonding in copper ii complexes of amidinourea
ESR studies of the copper(II) complexes with amidinourea [H2N.sbd.C(.dbd.O).sbd.NH.sbd.C(.dbd.NH).sbd.NH2] in polycrystalline form, in diamagnetic nickel(II) complex matrix and in dimethylformamide are reported. ESR spectra of bis(amidinourea)copper(II) in bis(amidinourea)nickel(II) and dimethylformamide solution and of bis(amidinourea)copper(II) dichloride in dimethylformamide solution exhibit nine nitrogen superhyperfine lines indicating the presence of four equivalent nitrogen atoms around the copper(II) ion. The evaluation of covalency parameters indicates that the copper(II) electron spends 35% of its time in the nitrogen donor sites of the ligand. The ESR, IR and electronic spectra of bis(amidinourea)copper(II) suggest the presence of CuN4 coordination sphere. The ESR data prove conclusively the absence of metal-ligand bonding through carbonyl oxygen. A comparison of the ESR parameters of the present complexes with those of the copper(II) complexes of biguanide, O-alkyl-1-amidinourea and glycine is presented.
