A spectropolarimetric method was applied to the investigation of thermal denaturation and renaturation of DNA macromolecules of calf thymus, salmon and coal-fish semen in the NaCl aqueous solutions of various ionic strengths. Based on spectropolarimetric studies, after having analyzed the values of parameters referring to thermal curves of optical activity, renaturation is a process which differs basically from the so-called non-specific base pairing in the complementary polynucleotide chains. While a non-specific base pairing is reflected on spectropolarimetric thermal curves at a wide temperature range, renaturation occurs at a narrow interval of a few degrees, well conspiquous on the curve in the region of Tm [melting or denaturation temperature].
