Spectro polarimetric investigations of the renaturation of animal dna macro molecules in sodium chloride aqueous solution in the region of the helix coil transition 2

Aqueous solutions of calf thymus, salmon and coal-fish semen DNA were investigated by spectropolarimetry in the presence of Na+ and Cl- ions in the range of temperatures in the premelting zone. An increase in optical activity in this range of temperatures can be explained by the development of a more open form by the DNA macromolecules. Both the so-called process of breathing and dehydration accompanied the changes in the asymmetry of macromolecules which is reflected in the spectropolarimetric thermal curves. Analytical studies were also conducted on the changes in optical activity during redenaturation under conditions of various ionic strengths.
