, : Spectrophotometric determination of chloramphenicol using 4 nitrosoantipyrine. Egyptian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences 26(1-4): 245-252

A new spectrophotometric method for the determination of chloramphenicol in alkaline medium is described. p-Nitrophenol, the alkaline hydrolysis product of chloramphicol reacts with 4-nitrosoantipyrine reagent to give a stable red colour. The method is applied for the analysis of chloramphenicol powder or its pharmaceutical formulations. The method is simple and sensitive and gives accurate results compared with B.P. 73 method.
