Spectrophotometric determination of iron by 2 5 bromo 2 pyridylazo 5 diethylamino phenol

, : Spectrophotometric determination of iron by 2 5 bromo 2 pyridylazo 5 diethylamino phenol. Analytical Letters 14(4): 241-248

The system Fe3+-5-Br-PADAP [2-(5-bromo-2-pyridylazo)-5-diethylaminophenol], in the presence of Triton X-100, was studied. The molar ratio of Fe3+/5-Br-PADAP in the complex was 1:2 at pH 2-6, the molar absorptivity was 8.64 .times. 104 at 595 nm and the apparent stability constant was 1.84 .times. 1013. A more sensitive spectrophotometric method for Fe determination was developed. The Fe contents of Chinese leaf tea samples determined by this method were 0.024% for Qimen Black Tea and 0.037% for Tunxi Green Tea. Results agreed with those obtained by the o-phenanthroline method.
