Spectrophotometric determination of the spirostan aglycone pennogenin in polygonatum stenophyllum



Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii (3): 332-336



Pennogenin and its glycosides, polygonatosides, were isolated from the Far Eastern species P. stenophyllum. Their spectrophotometric reactions with sulfuric acid and its aqueous solutions were studied. The reaction with 72% sulfuric acid was used to determine the content of glycoside-bearing pennogenin in roots of P. stenophyllum. The relative error of the determination did not exceed 3%.
