Reaction of Ba and Ca with the reagent 2,7-bis-(4-carboxybenzene-azo)-1,8-dioxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid was spectrophometrically investigated. In acidic media pH 0.5-5 Ba and Ca form with the reagent a complex of the so called Type III .**GRAPHIC**. Ba = 705 nm, .**GRAPHIC**. = 698 nm). By the Job method the composition of Ba and Ca complexes was determined (Me:R = 1:2). Under the same conditions Na+ formed a complex with the reagent only at the molar ratio Me:R = 100:1. This reagent can be used for spectrophotometric determination of Ba and Ca.
