Spectrophotometric method for the estimation of arginine decarboxylase ec 4.1.1.19

, : Spectrophotometric method for the estimation of arginine decarboxylase ec 4.1.1.19. Analytical Biochemistry 92(2): 331-337

A sensitive method for the determination of arginine decarboxylase [EC 4.1.1.19] from oat [Avena sativa] seedlings was developed, which is based upon the estimation of agmatine, the decarboxylation product of arginine. In the presence of pea [Pisum sativum] seedling amine oxidase [EC 1.4.3.6], the agmatine is oxidized and the H2O2 generated is estimated as a red-brown chromogen formed on the peroxidative oxidation of guaiacol. The method may be applied to the estimation of other amino acid decarboxylases.
